International Students at Pope John XXIII High School

Pope John XXIII High School offers a comprehensive, college preparatory high school program for both international and domestic students. Located in Everett, Massachusetts, Pope John is situated just five miles north of Boston and located on a public transportation route with easy access to the downtown Boston area.  Pope John XXIII High School strives to bring out the best in each student.  We expect our international students to be open minded and willing to give their best when they become members of our student body at PJHS.

Pope John offers two distinct international student programs: The United Schools Association Program, which is a dormitory program located at Pope John and a homestay program, offering students an opportunity to live with local families and attend Pope John as day students.  For more information, click the link to each program

THE POPE JOHN ADVANTAGE

English as a Second Language Instruction: Pope John offers international students comprehensive English as a second language instruction in grammar, writing, reading, vocabulary enrichment, and conversation. Instruction is course specific – students are taught academic language in all of their subjects – and each student is provided with individual attention aaccording to his or her needs. The school staff is specially trained for English language instruction as a process, and is part of a school-wide effort to have international students speaking English throughout the day.

Enrichment Programs:

To ensure that international students are exposed to many facets of American society, they are integrated with American students in after school and weekend programs. Not only do they learn more about American culture and way of life, but they receive the added benefits of making new friends and increasing their English proficiency through regular conversation with American students. This motivates our students to learn and better prepares them for the challenges that lie ahead.
